Tomorrow, I have to start being a grown-up forever! I start my first real, "big girl" job bright and early.

It's the next of the many steps I've taken to create the career of my dreams. My title is "Software Engineer," which, in basic terms, means that I'm a programmer. I'm a little nervous, but I always am before I start something new. I keep telling myself, "This time next week, I will have survived a whole week of working there!" which somehow makes me feel better!

They're serving us breakfast and lunch tomorrow, which I think is pretty awesome. I've never worked for a place that bought me food before. It's one of the many perks of landing this position :) Some of the other perks being: my own desk (after training, of course), a substantial salary, full benefits, and I'm fairly certain I'll make some new friends there. That's one great thing about working in IT for me, I usually meet people with similar, nerdy interests :)

It's going to be very tough to juggle my full time job with my startup business though. The business accelerator is still going on right now, so I've got to keep up with that as well. Just in this first week of work, I have three nights that are full of startup business stuff. It's going to be exhausting, yet exhilarating. And my bestie :iconflicke3: is so supportive, I know she'll help me survive it all!

We're meeting all kinds of influential people, not only in Cincinnati (where we're from) but in a couple other cities as well. It's only been four weeks since the start of the accelerator, and we've already learned so much! It's been difficult and very fun at the same time.

One off-topic thing, but I entered my first dA contest! I'm excited to see all the other great entries; I keep going back to the contest page to see if anyone else has submitted anything. Here's what my entry looks like:

One last thing, :iconflicke3:, her boyfriend, and :iconsenseialicia: and I are getting sushi tonight! I can't wait.... why is sushi so addictive?! :)

Thanks for reading! And I love you!

Today, my team found out that we've been accepted into the business accelerator program that my school offers! We had to submit a rather difficult application for the first round. After we got through the first round, we moved on to the second round, where we had to give a presentation in front of a panel of judges. The presentation was 5 minutes long (which isn't long, especially with three team members talking) and then 5 minutes of questions and answers. I was so anxious all week last week before the presentation, and I've been almost as anxious this week awaiting the results. They finally emailed me this morning! AND WE GOT IN!!!

That means that we'll get to spend all summer working with the program mentors, working on our business model and gaining insight into the startup world. We're going to be working with so many awesome people! I can't wait! Oh, and they're giving us $5000 in seed money. Yeah, you read that right. $5000.

After I heard that news, I found out that the company I used to work at decided to pay me out for all my unused vacation time. I didn't even know I had vacation time, since I was only part-time. But hey, I'm not going to argue over that haha. It'll pay almost a whole month's rent :)

Also, my bestie :iconflicke3: got contacted today for an interview for an awesome job! I know she'll conquer it just like we did the accelerator application process! :)

My Ruby on Rails professor emailed me today and asked what my after-graduation plans are. He said that the company he works for (which is a cutting-edge web development firm in Cincinnati) is always looking for good new hires, and that he thinks I should give it a try. Even though I already have a great job lined up for after graduation, I am still very interested in their company. I think it's more of what I'm looking for out of life. The people who work there are super enthusiastic about technology and seem like they're genuinely awesome. I told him that I'm interested in potentially interviewing with them. But we shall see!

Thanks for reading, and I hope you all are as happy as I am today :)

Halfway done!

We've finally made it to spring break! But honestly, this semester is going by way too quickly; I will actually be sad to graduate. I've met some really great friends this semester and I finally feel like I fit in with my classmates, so it makes me sad that I will be leaving most of my new friends in eight weeks. But I think the knowledge I'm gaining and the relationships I'm building now will help me immensely in my future career and life, and I am for sure making some great memories :)

My friends and I applied for a business accelerator program with what I think is a great idea. We submitted the application yesterday, and we should find out in a week or two if we passed the first round. If we do, then we will pass on to the next round, where we have to give a presentation in front of a panel of judges. I really hope we get to that point, because if they select us for the program, they give us a lot of seed money and then we will spend all summer with a bunch of mentors, working on our business model and learning so much! I think we have a great chance of moving onto the second round at least, because I've had a couple people who went through the program in the past couple years helping me with the answers to the questions on the application. It's been tough figuring out what we should focus on, but I think we made our case really well!

The game I'm making with my two friends is coming along nicely. I think our project is one of the top three projects in the class, and we for sure have done the most work on it out of everyone else in the class. I'm pretty proud of it! :) The characters I've drawn for it are in my gallery now, since I finally colored them. I've learned a lot about Photoshop since I started working on them, and I will be able to apply my new skills to my future personal digital drawings! I can't wait to have free time again so I can work on stuff like that.

Anyway, I just wanted to talk about fun stuff for a moment. Thanks for reading!

One week down!

I just finished the last first-week-of-school I will ever have!! I'm so excited to graduate at the end of this semester!!!!

But I know there is so much work ahead of me... I'm going to be learning four (yes, four!) programming languages this semester.

1. ActionScript 3.0. This is listed first because it's the one I'm most excited about. I'm taking a class in it, and I'm also making a really awesome game with two of my friends/classmates. The story idea is fantastic thanks to Kelsey, and I know that Erin and I can come up with some really great art. Erin's an art major, I'm so lucky to be friends with her :) I'm in charge of the programming, since that's what I'm going to be doing after I graduate. And the other two know next to nothing about coding :)

2. PHP. So far this seems like it will be soooooo useful in my future career. I'm really enjoying the assignments that my professor has given us, I'm already a week and a half ahead since I've done all the assignments up until that point.

3. SQL/ PL/SQL. I've learned SQL in the past, but we're going to be doing a lot more advanced stuff with it. Can't wait to get down to business :)

4. Ruby on Rails.  I just had my first RoR class tonight, and it was fantastic. There are actually two professors who are teaching the class together, but they are actually professionals who use RoR on a daily basis, so they KNOW what they're talking about. I feel so privileged to get to study with them, for real. In the first three hours of class today, they told us about so many cutting edge technologies that we will be USING in class, that the "normal" professors I have never talk about. I'm so excited. Add that to the fact that I found out last semester that I am in love with Ruby, and you've got a hella promising semester coming up!

I will probably upload some of the character designs I do for the game. And eventually, I'm sure I will upload the final version of the game! But that's several months away :)

Never Again

1 min read
One time recently, I apologized to someone for my existence. I didn't realize at the time that that's what I'd done; but the more I thought about what I'd said, the more I'd realized that that's what I'd done.

And I'll never do it again. I will never be sorry for my own life again.
